Recently, AMS member Katey Johnson Kowalewski was unexpectedly taken from us, leaving behind three young children. She loved walking in the forests of the White Mountains and gathering the mushrooms that grow there.
In her memory, we are doing a fund-raising foray to help with her funeral expenses and to benefit her children.
The first of these forays, on Saturday July 30, will be limited to 15 people who donate $100 each. They will be taken to several "magic" groves of trees that Katey discovered, which produce ultra-heavy fruitings of porcini in most years.
The second foray, on Sunday July 31, we will take donors of $25 or more to some other areas nearby that are known to be rich in porcini. These should be almost as good as Katey's groves if the conditions are right, and you might just find your own Magic Tree.
The proceeds from this foray will be donated to the GoFundMe account established by Katey's friends at gofundme.com/8eu2bkhg. If you have already donated to this fund, the amount of your donation will be credited towards this foray.
