Fresh from the Annual Foray, the Arizona Mushroom Society is planning a "snap foray" in the same area, where conditions are looking productive. This foray is specifically offered to provide an opportunity for AMS members who have not yet been able to attend a foray this year. A passcode for registration has been sent to all AMS members that have not attended a foray this year. If you are one of these people and don't see an AMS event announcement e-mail in your inbox, check your junk mail folder.
Registrants can include one guest. Children may attend and must be under supervision of their parent(s) at all times. Dogs must be well-behaved and on-leash during the event. This event includes hiking at high elevation, sometimes in areas with heavy downed logs and debris, which can be difficult for children, dogs, and many of us as well!
There is no charge for this event.
Summer forays are a valuable opportunity to learn about our local mycoflora, and while edibles are likely to be found it is not the goal of the foray. If you are interested in learning about local mushrooms, and haven't had an opportunity to register for an AMS event this year, here is a chance for you.
Those registered will need to meet at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10th east of Pinetop. Details on meet-up location will be sent to registered participants a day before the event.
Please be sure to come to the event prepared for summer monsoon season in the high mountains. You will need hiking boots, sunscreen, water, rain gear, and basic first aid supplies. Please be sure to bring a trusty knife and netter or paper bags or baskets for collecting mushrooms.
