On Thursday evening, January 9, 2020, the Arizona Mushroom Society, Inc., is again presenting an instructional class to teach our members the new, non-sterile "Tam Technique" for growing oyster mushrooms at home. This method was invented by Milton Tam of the Puget Sound Mycological Society, and brought to us by former AMS Vice President Bill Warner, whose son Ben grew these big, beautiful mushrooms using Tam's technique. This is the fourth time Bill has given this lecture and demonstration, and it is always very popular.

Participants in this course will make their own oyster mushroom grow bags under his supervision, and take them home to watch them grow and fruit. Unlike the usual methods of growing oyster mushrooms, Tam's super-easy technique does not require heat sterilization. Washtubs, plastic bags, kitty litter, rabbit food, and oyster mushroom spawn are all that will be needed. For only $5 to cover the cost of supplies and materials ($10 for non-members), you'll get multiple meals' worth of delicious oyster mushrooms in about 3 weeks.

Members of the AMS in good standing will have the first opportunity to enroll themselves and their families, beginning on Saturday, January 4th, 2020. Each primary member attending the class may also bring 1 guest, who will be required to pay the non-member price for supplies. Members of the public who are not guests of an AMS member will need to wait until Monday, January 6th to enroll for the remaining seats, if any are left.

We have arranged for the class to meet at the ASU Natural History Collections building at 734 W. Alameda Dr. in Tempe, where we have had several prior meetings.  The lecture begins at 7:00 p.m. sharp. Doors open at 6:30. Parking is available next to the building in the east side parking lot. Enter via the south-most entrance on the east side of the building, photo below:
