With a long winter mostly behind us and a major storm hitting Arizona and lasting through the week, it is a great time to get outside and get acquainted with some local plants and mushrooms. On Saturday, March 14, 2020, AMS President, Mike Dechter, will be leading a plant and fungi walk to see what the rain has brought out.
While it is likely still too early for morels, it is a great opportunity to look for our other winter fungi and learn about some of our early germinating plants. There will also be discussion about other potential fungi (such as morels) that may grow in these areas as Spring unfolds.
Like all forays, you need to register to attend this event. It is free to register. The event will start at 9:00 a.m. in the Verde Valley, so please only register if you can make it there. Specific directions will be emailed to you the day before the event. Due to limited parking and land use restrictions, this event can accommodate 25 participants. So please register without delay.
Conditions will be muddy and soggy, so please make sure to bring tall boots that you don't mind getting very dirty. The storm could also cause flooding and restricted access to areas, which may require us to modify plans prior to or during the event. Also, please make sure to come adequately prepared with sunscreen, snacks, water, and materials (knife and bag) for collecting any edible mushrooms or plants we find. No 4-wheel drive or high clearance vehicles required.
For questions about this event, please e-mail Mike Dechter (email@example.com).
