Registration to open in July
Citizen Science Sky Island Fungi Survey
Under the leadership of Science Committee Chair, Terri Clements, we are teaming up with University of Arizona Professor Betsy Arnold to complete a fungal survey of the Santa Rita Mountains to support a National Science Foundation grant and provide YOU the opportunity to learn or brush up on some myco skills!
This is a unique educational opportunity to learn from the pros. We will be taking a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning in the Santa Rita Mountains to find and document fungi, learn how to document a specimen, and gain confidence for each step of the vouchering process. In addition to getting out in the field to find and document fungal specimens, Dr. Arnold will provide facilities to allow participants a hands-on experience learning microscopy techniques and steps for documenting and maintaining fungal specimens.
This opportunity is open to AMS members. Due to the scientific focus of this event, no mushroom/fungi collection for personal or culinary purposes is allowed at this event. In addition, all foray participants must participate in a prerequisite meeting to learn more about how to use the iNaturalist app.
We have set-up two 30-min zoom meetings to learn more about the iNaturalist app:
Wednesday, June 8, 2022 - iNaturalist Discsussion/Training
Thursday, July 7, 2022 - iNaturalist Discussion/Training
